Cindy has 30 years of experience working in community corrections and youth and family services within county governments. Cindy became an official "Jacksonian" in 2014 and has loved being involved in the community and experiencing all Madison County has to offer. She currently works at the University of Tennessee at Martin as an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice.
She founded the local chapter of "Indivisible Jackson TN," which advocates for national issues through our local Congressional representatives. and was the driving force behind the installation of a historical marker memorializing the three known victims of lynching in Madison County.
Cindy was named The Jackson Sun Person of the Year in 2019. She was also recognized for her work by the Lane College Chapter of the NAACP. She has also received the Sterling Award as one of West Tennessee's 20 Most Influential Women from the Jackson Area Business and Professional Women Association.
She has been involved with many organizations in recent years including SCLC, BAEO, NAACP, Board Member National Foundation Transplants’, Partner 100 Black Men of Memphis, Kidz Biz, Partner Campaign for School Equity, Tennessee Pastors’ Action Coalition, Leadership Memphis, NEA, SCEA, and MEA. She currently serves on a White House Bipartisan taskforce for strategic partnership and African American outreach with special assistant to the President, Nicole A. Frazier. Recently, she was recognized with Congressional recognition and Shelby County Board of Commissioner’s recognition for her endeavors to ensure that all young people receive a quality education.
